I love the vocal versions - its tough to make the German language sound pretty…but Schubert wrote pretty music…including a set of songs called Schwanengesang (Swan Song) in 1828 when he was 30 years old…Standchen is my favorite from that set. Sadly he got sick and died the next year and never got to see those songs published or performed….
Many dilettantes confuse Schubert with Schumann…but really Schumann was much crazier than Schubert…
